St. John the Baptist uses the Image of God catechetical program. This religion series has as its foundation the creation of man in God’s own image and likeness. It is centered on the subjective emphasis found in the writings of John Paul II. The seven basic topics studied every year in this series are: God, creation, Christ, Church, grace, sacraments, commandments. However, each year emphasizes two or three of these ideas and treats them more extensively. The outline is as follows:

Primary – God; creation

Grade 1 – grace, sacraments

Grade 2 – sacraments, commandments

Grade 3 – Christ, Church

Grade 4 – God, grace, commandments

Grade 5 – Christ, Church, sacraments

Grade 6 – Old Testament – creation

Grade 7 – God, creation, Christ, commandments

Grade 8 – Church, grace, sacraments

John Paul II’s new presentation of the Faith is founded on the cornerstone of man in the image and likeness of God. In other words, it is founded on the incomparable dignity and value of each and every human being. We strive for every child to recognize their own value and worth and the unique contribution they make to the community just by being.

Each class in the program attends the sacrament of Penance as a group every year during class time with individual confessions.  Once a year we have a special Saturday workshop with a speaker or speakers who shows expertise in the area of catechetics.
